Last weekend's ride to the General Store
Last Saturday's ride started with 17 riders. Earlier this year, I moved the start location from the Starbucks at Black Mountain Parkway & Carefree Hwy to Bicycle Vibe. We haven't had this many riders since well before that time. As is often the case, several riders had constraints that caused them to short-cut the route (and in some cases to lengthen it). But when everyone was together, I find that a group of that size becomes a bit unwieldy. We can become an impediment to automotive traffic, particularly in congested areas, like convenience store parking lots. While we tend to naturally sort ourselves out into pace groups, it makes it difficult for me to feel like I'm able to keep an eye on everything.

Do you think one ride leader is enough for a group this size?
