Phoenix Political Pedal Power (P4)

Meeting with Colin Tetreault
Author Last Post

Here is the agenda of the meeting:

A. The City's Bike Plan is in development.  The traffic department wants to do much more.

B. Set a goal of Silver rating from League of American Bicyclists.  The five E's have real meaning.

C.  Recognition that there are many elements within the cycling community.  Most support this effort.

D. Help is available in many areas, for example MAG's fun learning program of safe cycling.

E. Many projects are proposed.  Our short list for encouragement includes:

    - The safe alternative pedestrian and bicycle entrance to South Mountain Park.
    - An alternative to Baseline Speedway for SE to Central commutes.
    - The Bike Boulevard planned through downtown.

There are many wonderful facilities in Phoenix already that are winners for cyclists and our close friends, pedestrians.  The canal banks provide safe cycling & jogging away from motor vehicles.  Valley Metro is very much a friend.  The Bicycle-Initiatives Sub-Committee is a strong voice for us.   South Mountain Park has its Silent Sunday, what a jewel that is.

This afternoon, four of us avid cyclists had a terrific meeting with Colin Tetreault, the Senior Sustainability Adviser to Mayor Stanton. Mr. Tetreault is also an avid cyclist and is already a strong voice for our favorite form of recreation and transportation. This is exciting in that he also has really good working knowledge of how things happen at City Hall. Not only was he pretty much aware of most of our concerns, he made note of several new twists we presented. Then he offered advice to us for our campaign work as well as saying he wants open lines of communication with us. THIS IS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
